High Uric Acid in Dialysis

Uric acid is the metabolic product of purines which can be found in foods and our body.In right condition,it can be processed by kidneys and is filtered out of body in the form of urine.The normal result of uric acid level should be below 6.0mg/dL. If uric acid level is higher than normal, it will result in a host of problems.Why does high uric acid occur in dialysis? How to lower it?

Causes of high uric acid in dialysis

As mentioned above, uric acid is filtered out of body by kidneys in right condition.However,when the kidneys are not functioning properly,they can not clear enough of the uric acid. If the levels of uric acid become too high,the patients will experience a host of problems like kidney stone, arthritis, joint pain etc.

Dialysis can eliminate macromolecular substances and middle molecular substances,but the toxins will linger in blood.Uric acid belongs to micromolecular substances so high levels of uric acid will build up in body.

How to lower high uric acid level in dialysis?

Firstly, diet plays such an important role in managing kidney disease. The patients on dialysis are not allowed to consume foods loaded in purine like animal organ,seafood,beer etc.Meanwhile,a healthy diet is recommended to the patients on dialysis. Vegetables, fruits, whole grains and low-fat foods are recommended foods for dialysis patients with high uric acid.

Secondly, the patients should avoid the risk factors of high uric acid like high blood pressure, high blood sugar, obesity etc.
