Weakness In Dialysis PatientsAlmost all the patients have the feeling of weakness after dialysis and why is this? Dialysis is a direct method of purifying blood and also a must for people with completely failed kidneys. Dialysis helps to prolong life span, but meanwhile causes a series of discomforts. Weakness is just one of the side effects of dialysis.

What causes weakness in dialysis patients?

In dialysis, weakness may result from many factors like;

1. Low blood pressure which is a common cause of weakness in dialysis.

2. Low dry weight: dry weight is an important factor to measure the quality of dialysis.

3. Too much fluid intake: It is necessary for dialysis patients to limit fluid intake, as too much fluid intake will cause weigh gain, which not only cause weakness, but also extremely low blood pressure and coma during dialysis.

4. Blood pressure medicines: sometimes, weakness may appear as a side effect of blood pressure medicines.

5. Anemia: Anemia is diagnosed when red blood cell account is lower than the normal range. It is one of the most common causes for dialysis patients to feel tired.

Other possible discomforts caused by dialysis aside from weakness

Weakness is just one of the side effects of dialysis and aside from it, patients may also experience many other discomforts like nausea, vomiting, itching skin, headache, muscle cramp and so on. All these symptoms are torturous, and if not managed well, they will affect patients’ life seriously.

For kidney failure patients with extremely high creatinine level, dialysis is helpful and necessary. It helps to remove toxins in blood, which not only do good to their kidneys, but also help to protect their other internal organs from being damaged by these harmful substances.

Besides, although dialysis is life-saving, it does not mean it is a must for all the kidney failure patients. For those who still have a certain urine output, there is alternative treatment for them to improve kidney function. And as long as kidney function is more than 15%, dialysis and its side effects like weakness will be avoided effectively.
