Diabetic Nephropathy is a very serious illness which can cause many symptoms. Proteinuria

In early stage of Diabetic Nephropathy, kidneys are damaged mildly and in such a case, the residual kidney function is powerful enough to maintain the normal life, so no obvious discomforts appear at that time. But if patients do urine test in such a case, excess protein can be found in urine. Protein leakage is the first symptom of diabetic kidney disease.

High blood pressure

Kidney serves us as a filter, which means it can help us cleanse blood. Besides it, kidneys also help us regulate blood pressure, so high blood pressure is also a symptom of Diabetic Nephropathy. For diabetics with kidney damages, they run high risk for elevation of blood pressure when their kidneys work properly.

Weakness

Feeling weak is another symptom of Diabetic Nephropathy and this is usually resulted from low EPO in blood. One of the jobs of kidney is to secrete EPO, so when kidneys are damaged severely, production of EPO decreases. EPO is necessary for the production of red blood cell and low EPO in blood will lead to low red blood cell account which can cause renal anemia. With renal anemia, we feel weak and become tired easily.

Swelling

Swelling is a visible symptom of Diabetic Nephropathy, which usually firstly appears around eyelid, in face, ankles and hands.
