Serum Creatinine 2.5 : How to Lower It

If your serum creatinine rises to 2.5 which is much higher than the normal range---0.5-1.0 for women and 0.7-1.2 for men, do not rush to medicines or treatments, you need first make clear what is the underlying cause of your high creatinine by consulting a nephrologist or taking some tests. This is because there are many factors that can cause high creatinine.

If you are an athletes, prolonged strenuous physical exercises and the supplement of creatine can cause creatinine to increase within short time. In such case, you need to stop supplying of creatine, stop strenuous activities and have good rest.

However if creatinine level still remain high or continue to increase even higher than 2.5, you need to see a nephrologist and have related tests like blood test, urine test, kidney function test, renal imaging tests to see weather there is any kidney problems.

If you are not athlete and high creatinine 2.5 has been there for long time and it has the trend to increase, it indicates high possibility of kidney disease. It can be renal disorders in kidney itself or it can be caused by other illness conditions such as long-term high blood pressure, diabetes, lupus, etc.

Some medicines can cause high creatinine such as anti-hypertensive drugs, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories can cause increase of serum creatinine.

If you have years of hypertension or diabetes, say more than 5 years, your high creatinine level 2.5 is most possibly caused by renal damages due to high level of blood pressure and blood glucose or the medicines that you are taking.

According to the underlying cause of high creatinine, different measures and treatments will be received.

If you have high blood pressure or diabetes, it is very important and necessary to first bring high blood pressure and high blood sugar well under control to avoid further renal damages and prevent further increasing of serum creatinine.

If you have been taking aspirin, naproxen or other medicines for a long term, you can replace them or gradually reduce their dosage by taking some herbal medicines which are more natural and produce less side effects if taken with proper method and dosage. Of cause, you need to consult the doctors before adding any herbal medicines to your treatment plan.
