Diet for Lowering High Creatinine

Creatinine is a nitrogenous waste product produced by muscular activity. Creatinine is normlly filtered out of the body by the kidneys. One way to help reduce creatinine levels and the strain on your kidneys is to modify your diet.

How to lower creatinine level through diet? The following will provide some tips:

Drink at least six glasses of water per day. Drinking water will help flush excess creatinine out of your system.

Avoid salty foods. When kidney disease or high blood pressure is suspected, the first dietary change is often to reduce sodium in the diet. Foods high in salt can raise your blood pressure, cause retention of fluid and prolonged damage to your kidneys. Fresh foods over packaged, convenience foods are recommended.

Stay away from foods rich in protein. Creatine is found in numerous high-protein foods such as chicken, fish and beef. As a result, it is important that these meats be reduced or limited in your diet to help you improve your creatine levels.

Avoid high arginine foods: high-arginine foods may increase the liver's production of creatine. Foods that contain high amounts of arginine include chocolate, almonds, cola, beer, grain cereals, chicken soup, gelatin, seeds and peas. Limiting arginine-rich foods can decrease the total amount of creatine in the body.
