Conventional Method to Reduce Creatinine Level

2012-10-23 15:16

If your creatinine level has increased to 4.6, I am afraid you need to start dialysis or kidney transplant. Both dialysis and kidney transplant are the commonly used methods for cleaning blood, but unfortunately, both of them are imperfect method.

How does dialysis reduce high creatinine level?

Dialysis is a renal replacement treatment which works through filtering blood with a machine outside patient's body. Creatinine is one of the wastes that produced by our body and normally discharged through our kidneys. However, because of kidney damages, kidney function decreases, as a result of which, creatinine can not be excreted timely. Creatinine build up in the blood and therefore high creatinine level occurs. For people on dialysis, their blood outflow their body and flow into a machine through a tube. Blood is filtered in this machine and then flow back to patient's body. During this procedure, wastes like creatinine are cleared away.

Dialyis is effective in cleaning small molecular substances, but fail to discharge big molecular substances. Besides, as dialysis only clean blood and has nothing to do with kidney, creatinine level increases again after dialysis.

How does kidney transplant reduce high creatinine level?

Kidney transplant is a surgery in which a healthy kidney is placed into patient's body to replace failed kidney work. If new kidney function well in patient's body, creatinine will be discharged gradually and obviously high creatinine level can be reduced effectively. However, if rejection is too strong to be controlled, new kidney needs to be taken out immediately. Generally speaking, a test that can help to detect whether the new kidney is matched to the patient will be done. And after kidney transplant, patients usually need to take some immunosuppressive to control rejection.

Kidney transplant is a way for high creatinine level to sustain their life, but unlucky, in many cases, kidney problem occurs again after kidney transplant. And once the new kidney is affected, creatinine level increases again.

In conclusion, although both dialysis and kidney transplant can be adopted by kidney failure patients to lower creatinine level, they are not the best method. At present, Immunotherapy which combines Chinese medicine and western medicines have been proven to be effective in lowering creatinine level, so if you do not want to do dialysis or kidney transplant, you can have a try about Immunotherapy.
