How to Lower Creatinine 1.9 through Diets

2012-10-11 14:42

Serum creatinine level of 1.9 is slightly higher than the normal range (0.5-1.2mg/dl) and it indicates minor damage of the glomerular filtration membrane. Since the metabolic wastes all need to be discharged through the kidneys’ filtration, therefore proper diet is an important factor for reducing kidneys’ burdens and slowing down the illness progression.

The most important aspect in diets is high quality low protein. The kidneys have strong compensatory ability and only when more than half kidney functions are affected can the creatinine be increased. Though creatinine 1.9 is not so high, it means that the kidneys have had substantial parenchymal damages. The purpose of low protein diet is to reduce burdens to the kidneys. It can also help improve azotemia, metabolic acidosis, insulin sensitivity so as to increase serum albumin and reduce protein leakage and slow down the progression of illness condition and delay end stage renal disease.

High creatinine has much to do with high blood pressure. Kidney clears the wastes and toxins in the body (including urea nitrogen, creatinine and uric acid, etc) through urination which is produced by the blood pressure in the kidneys. Kidney has the highest pressure in the body and it is of cause the most vulnerable organ to high blood pressure. To help control blood pressure and protect kidney functions, low-salt diet is very crucial. Low-salt diets can help reduce the retention of water and sodium in the body and alleviate edema and hypertension.

In addition, control the intake of potassium and fat and have more vitamins supple. Try to avoid spicy and excitant foods.

Only diet is not enough to lower creatinine. The root cause of high serum creatinine is damage of renal intrinsic cells and tissues. High creatinine is only the manifestation of renal damages and it should not be the ultimate aim to just lower creatinine level.

More effective treatments should aim to repair damaged renal tissues, improve ischemia and hypoxia, speed up the degradation of extracellular matrix, recover kidney structures and functions, so that the creatinine will be lowered naturally from the root.
