What Foods should High Creatinine Avoid

2012-10-05 11:38

Creatinine is the product of muscle metabolism. When the kidney function is normal, creatinine can be filtered in the kidneys and be discharged with urination. In case of kidney failure, the kidney function has been affected and these metabolic wastes and toxins can not be discharged.

Though diets only can not repair kidney damages or improve kidney functions, improper foods will add extra burdens to the kidneys and aggravate the illness conditions, therefore it is very important to know what are the foods that should be avoided in case of high creatinine.

1. Avoid high-phosphorus foods. Foods that are high in phosphorus include sea products (including plants), animal internal organs, sesame, peanut, walnut, honey, egg yolk, tea and some dried fruits.

2. Avoid high-potassium foods. The common foods that are high in potassium include onion, pumpkins, eggplant, watermelon, apple, pear, pineapple, carrot, cabbage, celery, orange, persimmon, etc.

3. Avoid high-protein foods. Too much intake of proteins will further increase creatinine and add burdens to the kidneys, therefore high-protein foods especially plant protein should be limited or avoided. The daily intake of protein should be limited within 20-30g (including plant protein in the staple food).

4. Avoid too salty foods. Salty foods will cause retention of water and sodium in the body and this will worsen high blood pressure which will cause further deterioration of the kidney conditions.

5. Avoid too fatty foods. Low fatty diets can be obtained through the following two measures. One is to put less oil while cooking and avoid greasy and fried foods, the other is to avoid animal oil and have vegetable oils that contain less or no saturated fatty acid.
