Generally speaking, high creatinine is caused by kidney damages and this is too general for receiving targeted and effective treatments, therefore it is important to know what the possible causes of high creatinine are so that patients can be clearer whiling treating it.
There are many factors that can cause creatinine to increase. The following are the major ones.
1. For renal insufficiency patients and in case of infections, colds, pneumonia, intestinal infection or urinary tract infection, there can be increase of creatinine level within short time.
2. For those that already have kidney diseases, the relapsing of the disease will cause oliguria, anuria or even acute renal insufficiency and this can cause high creatinine.
3. Over-tiredness, inadequate rest and unhealthy life habits, unreasonable diets can cause transient increase of creatinine.
4. The intake of renal toxicity medicines and drugs can cause high creatinine for kidney patients and this can be irreversible.
5. Loss of water in the body (dehydration) such as fever, sweating, inadequate intake of water.
6. Diuresis can cause blood concentration and reduction of blood flow in the kidneys and cause high creatinine.
Traditional treatment for lowering creatinine level is steroid therapy which is very effective but can not solve the root problem, not to mention the unfavorable side effects. Since creatinine is mainly filtered out of the body by the kidneys, the key point is to repair kidney damages and improve kidney functions. When the basement membranes are repaired and the glomerular filtration area is increased, the high creatinine will be reduced naturally. However it takes some time to notice the effects, therefore patient should have patience and adhere to the systemic treatment. And at the same more attention should be paid to the daily life to avoid colds, over-tiredness and bring the blood pressure, blood sugar and blood lipid well under control to protect the remaining kidney functions from further damages.
