What are the Damages of High Creatinine Level

2012-09-30 17:46

The root cause of high creatinine level is renal fibrosis in which the fibroblasts transform into muscle fibroblasts after the kidneys are invaded by various reasons. At the same the normal renal cells and tissues are involved and the renal damages become even worse and extensive and the kidney functions will be weakened and such metabolic wastes as creatinine, BUN can not be discharged out of the body and they will accumulate in the body, thus causing increase of serum creatinine and urea nitrogen, decrease of urine creatinine and bilateral glomerular filtration rate.

Since creatinine is a metabolic waste and under normal conditions it should be cleared out of the body and the excessive and increased accumulation of creatinine in the blood will in turn poison the kidneys and other organs. The following are the damages that high creatinine may cause.

1. Metabolic disorders of sodium and potassium. High creatinine will cause hyponatremia, high natremia, hyperkalaemia or hypokalaemia.

2. Metabolic disorder of water including diuresis, increased night urination, thirst, mucous membrane drying, fatigue, dropsy, increased blood pressure, pulmonary edema, heart failure, etc.

3. High creatinine will cause metabolic disorders of aluminum, magnesium, copper, zinc, selenium, etc.

4. It can cause renal osteopathy and there are often systemic bone pains. Bone deformity can cause short stature.

5. Metabolic acidosis. High creatinine can cause a series of symptoms and discomforts such as long and deep breath, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, headache, restless or even coma, etc.

Besides, high creatinine can cause lesions in many systems and organs including circulation system, digestive system, blood system (for example the renal anemia), respiratory system, etc.

Therefore in case of persistent high creatinine level and if the physiological factors can be ruled out, proper and effective measures should be taken as soon as possible to stop the further increase of creatinine and lower it. Besides proper treatments and medicines, the diet is also one important factor which should arouse enough attention.
