What are the most common symptoms and signs of kidney diseases? There are many reasons in our daily life that can cause kidney damages and kidney diseases and more and more people are bothered by kidney disease recently. Therefore it is necessary to know what the common signs of kidney disease are so as to have early prevention and treatments and avoid irreversible renal impairments.

1. Edema. Edema is one of the common symptoms of kidney diseases and there will be edema in clinic if the extracellular fluid increases more than 3kg in adults. Usually there will be swelling around the eyes or on the cheek and will disappear in the afternoon. Overtiredness will worsen the edema and it can be alleviated after rest. In serious conditions, it can affect the whole body and there may even be fluids in chest and ascites.

4. High blood pressure. Ischemia and hypoxia will stimulate the kidneys to secrete more renin and this will cause blood pressure to increase.

5. Changes in urine output. Under normal circumstances, the daily urine output is about 1500ml if there is no fever, over-sweating or over-drinking. The sharp increase or decrease of urination should arouse enough attention and it is recommended that the patients go to see a doctor.

6. Night urination. Healthy people that are below 60 usually have no night urination and it is an early indicator of renal dysfunction if there is night urination.

7. Back pain. The pain is usually dull. In case of unexplained back pain, patients should check the kidneys, spinal and muscles in back and waist.

Besides the above mentioned symptoms, kidney diseases patients will have urinary frequency, urinary urgency, urinary pain, loss of appetite, fatigue, paleness. In addition, the male might have sexual dysfunction and female might have infertitlity.
