Now and then people may have noticeable foams in urine. It is one typical sign of kidney disease, therefore many people are worried weather they have kidney problem or not. Does foamy urine mean I have kidney disease? What should I do to cure foamy urine?

Foamy urine and kidney disease

One cause of foamy urine is more than normal proteins are being leaked into urine. If it does not go away after several days or it becomes even worse over time, there is a strong possibility that the foams in urine are due to kidney disease. Increased protein in urine might indicates renal damages and further evaluation is needed to confirm that.

Foamy urine without kidney disease

However foamy urine does not definitely mean there is any kidney problem or kidney disease. There are some cases in which foams in urine is due to other illness conditions or there is noting wrong but just because of rapid urination. Some people especially women have the habit to hold urine for a long period of time and they will notice foams in urine from time to time. Holding urine is not a good habit which can not only cause foamy urine but also can increase the risk of urinary tract infections and bacteria which are also common causes of foamy urine.

Dehydration or lack of fluid intake can also cause the urine to be foamy or bubbly. In such case, drinking a lot of water and controlling the speed of urination can make the foams to disappear.

Having no sexual life for long time or if antiprostate secretes more grume, there will be foams in urine.

There are some other illness conditions that can also cause foamy urine.

As has been mentioned above, urinary tract infections and bacteria in urinary tract are common causes of foams in urine. Besides, bladder diseases such as cystitis, bladder cancer can change the components of the urine and cause bubbles in urine.

Liver disease can cause increased hematoidin or proteins in urine and patients can notice bubbles in urine.

Diabetes can also cause foams in urine which are often large and disappear quickly. This is because diabetes can change PH of the urine and increase urine sugar and urine ketone bodies.

Anyway, if there is persistent foamy urine, early tests are needed to make clear the causes so as to receive timely treatments and have early recovery.
