Dietary Tips For Chronic Kidney Disease PatientsSince chronic kidney disease (CKD) will be worsened by tiredness and infection, patients should follow a proper diet to control or slow the progression of kidney disease. Well, what diet should a patient with kidney disease pay attention to once he or she is diagnosed with renal disease?

1. Low salt and low protein diet

Kidney disease patients should eat less meat especially for white meat and red meat while they can eat some fish properly. This is because white and red meat is usually saturated fatty acid. Protein in fish is unsaturated fatty acid which has the function of anti-arteriosclerosis. If you eat too much protein, it will put a burden on kidney and worsen the illness condition.

2. Avoid star fruit

The content in star fruit is difficult for kidney disease patients to be metabolized, especially for dialysis. In addition, if you suffer from kidney failure and high potassium level, you should avoid bananas, oranges and mushroom as well as other high potassium foods.

3. Follow a light diet

Kidney disease patients should follow a light diet and had better follow a low sodium and low fat diet. Meanwhile, patients should supplement high quality protein to ensure nutritional sufficiency and keep a balanced diet. Avoid shrimp, crab and greasy food.

4. Supplement vitamins

Kidney disease patients should supplement sufficient vitamins and trace element like vitamin B, vitamin C, zinc, calcium and iron which helps protect kidneys.

5. Control fat intake

If kidney disease patients have hyperkalemia, they need to limit animal fat intake. At the same time, if Nephrotic Syndrome patients have severe edema, they need to restrict sodium intake. Salt intake per day should be less than 3g daily.
