Baking Soda Benefit People with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)

A proper diet is important for kidney health. As many as 26 million Americans develop chronic kidney disease, as is reported by National Kidney Foundation. Kidney disease is a latent disease so people don’t pose specific symptoms at primary stage. If people develop Renal Insufficiency, the kidneys will fail to filter wastes out of bloodstream and people would pose such symptoms as poor appetite, vomiting, nausea, high blood pressure, etc. Now researchers have made a breakthrough in the treatment of kidney disease—it doesn’t mean a new drug; instead, it is a simple daily dose of sodium bicarbonates, or more exactly, baking soda.

In the research, Dr. Yaqoob studied 134 patients with advanced CKD and low bicarbonate levels, a condition known as metabolic acidosis. One group of these patients was treated with a small daily dose of sodium bicarbonate in tablet form, in addition to their usual care. The results indicate that the rate of decline in kidney function was dramatically reduced in these patients. Overall, the decline was about two-thirds slower than in patients not given sodium bicarbonate. "In fact, in patients taking sodium bicarbonate, the rate of decline in kidney function was similar to the normal age-related decline," as is said by Dr. Yaqoob.

It is suggested that people who take sodium bicarbonate were tend to less likely to develop end-stage renal disease (ESRD) which requires people to undergo dialysis treatment. In addition, those taking sodium bicarbonate also had improvement in several measures of nutrition.

Being diagnosed as Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), not only reduce renal functions, but also can increase a person’s chance of developing cardiovascular diseases. Many people experience heart attacks even before they are aware that they have kidney disease. Good news is that some natural approaches such as certain products and herbs help people to prevent, fight and heal kidney disease. In addition to baking soda, an earlier from Natural News suggested that eating fish several times a week has been shown to help prevent kidney disease in Diabetes.
