What Is The Relation Between High Blood Pressure And Kidney Disease

How is high blood pressure related with kidney disease? If you have high blood pressure, you are more likely to have kidney disease. Likewise, if you have kidney disease, this can sometimes cause high blood pressure.

One of the kidney functions is to control blood pressure. When your kidneys are not working well, your blood pressure cannot be balanced.

Over time, high blood pressure can damage blood vessels throughout your body. This will reduce the blood supply to important organs like the kidneys. Also it will damage the tiny filtering units in the kidneys. Consequently, the kidneys may stop discharging wastes and extra fluid from your blood. The excess fluid in your blood vessels may accumulate and raise blood pressure even more.

2. High blood pressure is a common complication of CKD.

As mentioned above, kidneys play an important role in keeping your blood pressure in a normal range. Once the kidneys are damaged or diseased, they fail to regulate blood pressure. In this case, high blood pressure occurs.

A diuretic or water pill

Beta blockers or calcium channel blockers

The above medications can do some help for controlling blood pressure. However, they only cure the symptoms but not the disease.
