What Can Cause Renal Failure

2013-07-26 18:00

What is renal failure? Due to temporary or permanent damage to kidneys, it results in loss of normal kidney function. Renal failure is divided into two different types-acute and chronic. Acute renal disease is an abrupt onset and usually is reversible. Chronic renal disease progresses slowly over 3 months and finally changes into permanent renal failure. Now you know there are two types of renal failure, but do you know what conditions may lead to acute and chronic renal failure. Well, in the following, I will analyze them respectively.

What conditions may cause acute renal failure?

1. Myocardial infarction

It is a heart attack which may lead to temporary renal failure.

2. Rhabdomyolysis

Because of muscle breakdown, kidney damage may occur. This condition may occur from dehydration, infection, or other causes.

3. There is decreased blood which flows to the kidneys for a long time. It is due to blood loss or shock.

4. Blockage or obstruction in urinary tract

5. Hemolytic uremic syndrome

It is usually caused by an E-coli infection, kidney failure progresses because of obstruction to the small functional structures and vessels inside the kidneys.

6. Take a certain medication that may cause toxicity to the kidneys.

7. Glomerulonephritis

During glomerulonephritis, the glomerulus is inflamed and damages the kidneys’ ability to filter urine. Glomerulonephritis may lead to acute renal failure to some persons.

What causes chronic renal failure?

1. Diabetes nephropathy

Diabetes is a main cause of chronic kidneys disease because diabetes can cause permanent changes.

2. Hypertension

High blood pressure and diabetes is the main cause of chronic kidney disease. High blood pressure can not only be a complication of chronic kidney disease, but also a main cause of CKD. And if you do not cure it timely, it advances into end stage renal disease and lead to no cure for it.

3. Lupus

It is a chronic inflammatory or autoimmune disease, which will injure the skin, joints, kidneys and nervous system.

4. A long time of urinary tract blockage or obstruction.

5. Alport syndrome

It is an inherited disease wich causes deafness, progressive kidney disease, and eye detects.

6. Nephrotic syndrome

It is a condition that has different causes. Nephrotic syndrome may have these symptoms such as protein in the urine, low protein in the urine, high cholesterol levels, and tissue swelling.

7. Polycystic kidney disease

It is a genetic kidney disease with the growth of numerous cysts filled with fluid in the kidneys.

8. Cystinosis

It is also an inherited disorder in which the amino acid cystine builds up within specific cellular bodies of the kidney, known as lysosomes.

9. Interstitial nephritis or pyelonephritis

It is an inflammation to the small internal structures in the kidney.

All of above are diseases or conditions which may lead to acute renal failure and chronic renal failure, but are not just limited to the above.
