Uremia refers to clinical symptom syndrome of kidney failure. The kidneys are qualified with strong compensatory functions, so normal physiological activities of human body can still be preserved when kidneys are slightly impaired. At early stage of Uremia, a person may experience some of the following symptoms.

1. Weakness

A person with kidney disease gets tired more easily. However, the symptom is often overlooked because the reasons leading to weakness are so many. Those who are dedicated to work may often contribute it to severe work pressure or over fatigue.

2. Pale face

Paleness is caused by anemia because kidneys are less effective in producing erythropoietin, a kind of hormone that stimulates the bone morrow to produce red blood cells. In chronic kidney disease, anemia develops slowly through months or years so one will not experience obvious facial contrast.

3. Edema

Fluid retains in tissues when the kidneys can not remove excessive water out of the body. At initial stage, swelling is limited in ankles and eyelids and may get remitted after a rest. The illness condition is quite severe when persistent swelling occurs and spreads to the whole body.

4. Urine change

The amount of urine kidneys makes reduces as renal filtration function is progressing. As toxins can not be effectively discharged, the amount of wastes in urine is also reduced.

5. High blood pressure

When the kidneys are impaired, accumulated water and sodium in blood can result in high blood pressure. In addition, the kidneys normally produce hormones to regulate blood pressure. Hence, patients at early stage of Uremia experience hypertension to varying degrees.

6. Poor appetite

Wastes and toxins rise above normal range when the kidneys are not working properly. Those toxins can cause disorders in digestive tract, causing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, reduced appetite, abdominal discomfort, etc. At this time, renal damage is severe so the patients will need to visit doctors immediately.
