Bone Disease and Anemia in Membranous Nephropathy

2014-01-24 14:31

Bone disease and anemia are two common complications in membranous nephropathy. In return, these two conditions can worsen the prognosis of the disease significantly. What are the causes of bone disease and anemia in membranous nephropathy?

Bone disease in membranous nephropathy

Bone disease like osteoporosis, fragile bone can occur in membranous nephropathy. It is mainly attributed to the following causes.

Firstly, the diseased kidneys fail to eliminate phosphors from blood adequately. The level of calcium in blood will decline. As a result, a lot of calcium will be expelled from bone. Bone disease will result.

Secondly, vitamin D is an important substance in helping the formation of bone. However, in some cases of membranous nephropathy, the gastrointestinal tract can not absorb the vitamin D as adequately as before. Vitamin D deficiency also can contribute to bone disease.

Renal anemia in membranous nephropathy

If the patients suffer from renal anemia, they may suffer from fatigue, dizziness, chill etc. The major culprit of anemia in membranous nephropathy is reduced level of EPO. EPO is a kind of hormone which can stimulate bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Healthy kidneys can produce EPO which can stimulate the bone marrow to make red blood cells.

However, the diseased kidneys fail to produce EPO as efficiently as before, thus resulting in low levels of red blood cells. As red blood cells can carry oxygen to body tissues and cells, without adequate oxygen supply, the patients will feel tired easily.

Treatment for bone disease and renal anemia in membranous nephropathy

The general treatments for the conditions will not mentioned here like iron supplement, artificial EPO and so forth.

To control these two conditions fundamentally, the patients should have a treatment to restore the impaired kidney structure and enhance renal function. Micro-Chinese Medicines Osmotherapy is an effective treatment for membranous nephropathy and it can help improve renal function by restoring the kidney structure fundamentally.
